Autacoid Medicine is starting to get recognized as a new way to treat using natural and endogenous compounds, the autacoids. PEA is such an autacoid.
German scientists compared the concentration of PEA-related lipids, the N-acylethanolamides in hair of PTSD patients and compared these to healthy normal people. Quite impressive strong negative relationships between all investigated N-acyl-ethanolamides and symptom severity of PTSD was found.
The authors concluded that their findings add to the accumulating evidence suggesting these lipid autacoids are a target for pharmacological enhancement of exposure-based psychotherapy for PTSD.
This also adds to the experiences that PEA can be used to boost many different interventions: treatment with opioids, NSAIDs, ketamine, all kinds of co-analgesics and related compounds.
