Palmitoylethanolamide (PeaPure, Normast) valuable in diseases of digestive Tract and bladder

An international research group ( University of Naples, Pharmacology of Bioactive Lipids Research Group,Belgium, Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, USA. and Medical University of Graz, Graz, Austria) published an overview article on the role of palmitoylethanolamide and related compounds in disorders of bladder an digestive tract, in an authorative textbook.

The authors reviewed the components of the so-called endocannabinoid system, and enzymes involved in endocannabinoid synthesis and degradation, which all reside in the gastrointestinal and in the urinary tract. Palmitoylethanolamide is one of the key compounds of this system.

They discussed evidence proving that this system is implicated in many gastrointestinal and urinary physiological and pathophysiological processes, including epithelial cell growth, inflammation, analgesia, and motor function.

Therefore compounds such as PEA can be of great use in gastrointestinal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer, cystitis, and hyperactive bladder.
