PeaLut study without control in an in vitro Alzheimer model

In this study, presented at the  36° CONGRESSO NAZIONALE DELLA SOCIETÀ ITALIANA DI FARMACOLOGIA; Il ruolo della RICERCA farmacologica per la CRESCITA e la SALUTE in Italia, Torino, 23-26 ottobre 2013, Esposito et al investigated the altered signal transduction associated with soluble amyloid beta-protein (Abeta) oligomer-mediated neurotoxicity in the hippocampus after treatment with the association of palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) with luteolin (Lut). There was no control of PEA alone, without the phytocompound luteolin.

In an in vitro model a human neuroblastoma cell line was pretreated with PEALut at three different concentrations (0.1-1-10 μM) for 2 hours before the challenge with Aβ1-42.

PEALut was able to blunt a Aβ1-42 -induced neurotoxicity and to control inflammatory glial activation.
