Palmitoylethanolamide (PeaPure, Normast): decreases pain and elevates mood!

Much studies has been published supporting PEA’s analgesic action. Now scientists published a new important piece of evidence that PEA might also be able to elevate mood. In a recent article in Pharmacological Reports researchers showed that PEA was as effective as the well known antidepressant fluoxetine (Prozac), without having its side effect profile.

In the graph we can clearly see the antidepressant effect of PEA compared to fluoxetine:

There were no negative effects of PEA, and we quote: ‘The results demonstrated that PEA after 7 days of treatment, did not significantly change the motor activity in mice and did not affect the body weight of the animals in any of the groups as compared with the controls.’

The authors concluded:

In this study, the antidepressant-like effect of PEA was evaluated using mice. The results provide evidence that PEA possesses an antidepressant-like effect comparable to the reference drug – fluoxetine. With regard to the application of these results, PEA deserves more attention as a potential antidepressant.
