PEA: a natural protector
Levi-Montalcini coined the term ALIA-mides in 1993 for molecules that protect the body against stressors, and PEA is a clear example. In the 70s and 80s of last century the scientist Schmidt already postulated PEA is synthesized in moments of cell stress, for instance during myocardial ischemia and infarction. In that period there were various experiments were PEA concentrations in ischemic tissue increased, and protective properties were discovered.
Meanwhile we even know PEA can protect brain tissue against injury and also against neuro-inflammation for instance in Alzheimer models en MS models.
ALIA-mides stands for molecues which protect: Autocoid (an autocoid is a tissue hormone) Local Injury Antagonism.
